Marks of a Healthy Church Member
What makes a church healthy?
That question gets asked a lot, and for good reason. We all want to be part of a church that’s thriving—where the gospel is central, people are growing, relationships are strong, and mission is advancing. But sometimes we look for health in the wrong places. We often evaluate by the quality of the music, the charisma of the preacher, the style of the building, or the size of the crowd.
But according to Scripture, the health of a church is not first about programs or polish—it’s about people. A church is not just a building you go to; it’s a body you belong to. And when each part of the body is functioning well, the whole body flourishes.
In Ephesians 4:16, Paul describes the church as a body “fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part.” The result? “It maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.” In other words, when every member is doing their part, the whole church grows in health, unity, and love.
That’s why this summer, we’re launching a Sunday night preaching series titled Marks of a Healthy Church Member. Over the course of ten weeks, we’ll be asking one simple but vital question: How can you, as an individual member of this local church, contribute to the positive health of your church?
This series isn’t just for pastors, deacons, or ministry leaders. It’s for every Christian who calls this church home. Because the health of this church isn’t determined only by what happens on the platform—it’s shaped by what happens in each member’s heart and life.
The preaching will be shared among our pastoral team—David, Tanner, Sid, and Dylan—each bringing biblical insight, practical application, and a shepherd’s heart. Together, we’ll walk through ten distinct marks of a healthy church member:
- A biblical theologian
- An expositional listener
- A Gospel-saturated life
- A genuinely converted Christian
- A biblical evangelist
- A committed member
- A member who seeks discipline
- A growing disciple
- A humble follower
- A faithful prayer warrior
- A servant-hearted contributor
These are more than bullet points on a checklist. They’re reflections of what it means to live as a faithful, fruitful member of Christ’s body. Each sermon will call us to examine ourselves and grow—not just for our own sake, but for the good of the whole church.
Whether you’re a new believer, a long-time member, or someone simply wanting to grow deeper in your faith and service, this series is for you. Come with an open Bible and an eager heart. Ask God to use this summer to shape you into the kind of church member who strengthens others, reflects Jesus, and helps this body thrive.
Healthy church members make for a healthy church. And when every member does their part, the whole body thrives. Join us each Sunday night this summer. Let’s grow together!
