Jesus Loves The Little Children And So Do I
What is Vacation Bible School (VBS)?
VBS is a way members of Fellowship Baptist Church can minister specifically to children and families in the surrounding community by providing an opportunity for kids to learn about the good news of Jesus Christ.
What can I do during VBS?
Come to the VBS meeting May 17th at 5:30. There is a sign-up sheet on the resource desk in the foyer. On that list you will see: greeters, row workers, bus workers, and different games and activities to man for the Wednesday night carnival. The top two that I always need help with is bus workers and row workers.
What if I am on the fence about VBS?
Sign-up as a row worker or a bus worker. I am not saying you have to be a professional child therapist, all you have to do to be good with kids at this young age is just show up and listen. As a row worker, you sit on the end of the row next to a child, and be involved in what he is doing. As a bus worker, you just show up and listen to what the kid has to say. Ask him his name, his favorite animal, and what he believes about God.
One of the main passages of Scripture that drives me as a children’s pastor is Matthew 19:13-15:
Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away.
We see in this text children being brought to Jesus, most likely by their parents, so that he may lay his hands on them and pray. Look who tries to get in between Jesus and the children, the disciples. The ones who spent most of their time with Jesus were denying kids and their parents of being with him. Jesus, he has the opposite reaction to parents bringing their children to him. “Let them come, do not hinder them. Kids can be part of the kingdom of heaven too.”
We just got done with a missions conference. We shouted, “Amen!” to “Tell all people of the good news.” Now is your chance to make it happen. VBS is a perfect opportunity to be a missionary in your own hometown. Let it not be said of the members of Fellowship Baptist Church that we hindered children coming to Jesus. Ask God to help you be patient and loving to these kids that come. Jesus says let them come. Jesus loves children and so should you.
